SIGMUND FREUD: JEWISH ROOTS AND CONTEXT OF HIS PIONEERING WORK
-Terezie Dubinová, PhD.
Sigmund Freud, an important pioneering scientist, had never given up his Jewish identity. Such a position was quite unique in the process of transformation of Jewish communities in Central Europe of 19th century. We mention also the character of Jewish spiritual thinking and interpretation of reality which was both conscious and unconscious inspiration for Freud. Currently we again live in the time of pressure on Jews to give up their zionist identity, so we can look at Freud´s work with old-new urgency.

Black Freud table
-Jan Nedoma
The Jane McAdam Freud Gallery invites you to an exceptional evening May 19, where contemporary art meets a unique culinary experience. The Black Freud Table project is conceived as a site-specific event inspired by the work and legacy of Jane McAdam Freud, offering an intimate form of shared dining within the gallery space.
The culinary part of the evening will be led by chef
Jan Nedoma, known for his distinctive approach to cooking, with a focus on seasonality, local ingredients, and experimental flavors. His work often moves beyond traditional gastronomy, approaching food as a performative and immersive experience.
The Black Freud Table concept treats food as a medium—bringing together visual art, narrative, and taste into a single experience. The dinner thus becomes not only a gastronomic event, but also a sensory and cultural dialogue.
Tickets for the event can be purchased via the chef’s e-shop:

GUIDES
-Jan Pražan
A guided tour of the exhibition Guides (Průvodci) took place on 20 March 2026 at 17:00 at the Jane McAdam Freud Gallery in Příbor. This special event offered visitors a unique opportunity to experience the exhibition beyond its visual form and to engage more deeply with the ideas behind the works.
During the tour, guests were introduced to themes such as tarot archetypes, as well as personal stories connected to individual artworks, including Hořící bříza (Burning Birch).
The commentary also provided insight into the life of the artist, whose personal experiences are strongly reflected in the work, adding further depth and emotional resonance to the exhibition.
As a one-time event, the guided tour formed part of the gallery’s special program, inviting audiences to connect more closely with contemporary artistic practice.
Candlelit procession
-Holly Stevenson
developed a deep connection to Příbor during her residency, which became the central theme of a ceremonial procession marking the beginning of the project.
The event took place on 8 November, starting in front of the Sigmund Freud birth place.
From there, visitors moved in a procession accompanied by the choir Cantus Venuste towards the Jane McAdam Freud gallery.
The route was illuminated by twelve candles placed in specially designed holders created by the artist, symbolically initiating the entire exhibition project.
This performative moment connected public space, light, and movement, and naturally led into the opening of the exhibition Tracing the Untraceable, which brought together the work of Holly Stevenson and Jane McAdam Freud.

I AM ALWAYS YOURS
-Christine Habermann von Hoch
As part of the exhibition Christine Habermann von Hoch: I Am Always Yours, a series of guided tours and accompanying talks took place on 28 January, 11 February, and 25 February 2024, offering visitors deeper insight into the work of this distinguished German-Czech sculptor. Christine Habermann von Hoch, daughter of renowned artist blacksmith Alfred Habermann, has long worked with metal as her primary medium; in this exhibition, however, she presents a more personal and narrative-driven approach reflecting on the human experience.
The exhibition also served as a tribute to her close personal and professional relationship with artist Jane McAdam Freud, who played an important role as a mentor and encouraged Habermann to expand her artistic language. Their shared sensibility is reflected in the use of found objects and recycled materials to explore fundamental human themes.
The project received notable media attention, including a feature on Události v kultuře on Czech Television, a review published by Novinky.cz and coverage by ORF, further highlighting the exhibition’s international resonance.
